QR Codes for Educational Purposes

Student tardies! If I had a nickel every time a teacher complains about this issue, I would be able to retire early. While venting can relieve some of the stressors for teachers, it is imperative that as educators we look to proactive strategies to teach our students the skills that will be crucial as they become adults. One strategy used by teachers at our school successfully is the use of a QR code that students use to scan in when they arrive at class. The code will take them to a form that will include a time stamp to sign into class. Teachers can use the data collected to have students reflect on their patterns of arrival which reminds students that timeliness matters without having to sound like a broken record. It will also be data that teachers can use to share with parents as well as a record for school safety.

Pros: quick, easy to access, in the real world (restaurants, hospitals, airports)

Cons: Some students may not have a phone
